The most fantastic winter 07/08 is slipping into the best of all seasons: Spring winter is here and we have more than 130 cm snow, sunshine and hopefully an entire month of wonderful dog sledding to look forward to. We accept reservations for last minute dog sled tours in April to ensure that it is cold enough to drive dogs. We thank our guests/clients for a very nice season and we look forward to see you next winter or this summer when we start up our hiking- and fishing tours. (More information will follow in May) Welcome!

Nymånen is certified as Natures Best travel/event operator!
We are very proud about this and we do our best to live up to the high expectations our guests have when they participate in arrangements which are among the best nature travels in Sweden. The certifying committee's motivation to our approval tells: */"Another qualified dog sled organizer, with 30 years experience make Sweden's great offer of dogsled tours even better. An already wide variation is being completed now with magical winter tours in Arvidsjaurs snowy forests, and for those who wish to sharpen it with ice fishing or thoughtful hunting on grouse and ptarmigan."

The tours certified by Naturens Bästa are our 2 and 4 hours tours with a visit to Nymånen huskyfarm, topbirdhunting from the dogsled and sleddog tours with icefishing. Information and reservation at
tel + 46 (0)70 - 625 40 32 or +46 (0) 960 - 400 28.

According to the recent weather map Auktsjaur/Arvidsjaur has got the most snow of the country. We have already started to drive long training tours. Our dogs are in great shape and we are looking forward to a fantastic winter on the race trails and with our guests.

The summer has been full of activities for our kennel. The big play yard got finished in June and the dogs were able to train/run free daily over the entire season. Over some of the pens we have built roofs and all the fences have been raised because the snow height (up to 130 cm) caused a lot of problems last winter with dogs jumping over fences and doors which couldn't be opened.

Two new Siberian Husky puppies have come to our kennel (studfee puppies of our males Pluto and Jupiter). They are both very nice and we are glad that the owners of the first class bitches chose to use our young males for breeding.

We have moved permanently to our farm in Auktsjaur and rented out our house in Luleå to another dog musher. From this winter on we will be driving mostly in Arvidsjaur/Auktsjaur and can offer a variety of pleasant dog sled tours from our Husky farm.

We have got confirmed that the real winter this year is to be found in Swedish Lapland. We have more than a meter of snow here in Auktsjaur and it is simply magnificent in the forests. Our venture to drive dogsledding tours in the beautiful nature which surrounds our kennel has become a great succes.

We drive wonderful dogsled tours of 2 or 4 hours (which can be booked at tel 0046-70 625 40 32 or 0046- 960-400 28) almost daily, starting from Nymånens huskyfarm. Together with Urban Erikssons company Carpe Diem Guide AB (tel 0046-70-256 45 75) we offer dogsledding tours combined with snow scooter driving, car driving on ice, and an outdoor lunch at Camp Auktsjaur. Until now it has been most foreign guests/groups who have discovered Camp Auktsjaur but we hope also swedish companies will find their way to the beautiful outdoors of Auktsjaurssjön for their winter events.

We are proud to have been rewarded the maximum score in a comparative study of business events, done by a number of leading German travel agents who visited us in January during our Kick Off at Camp Auktsjaur.

Nymånens Ellen gave birth to 2 males and 4 females last night. Sire to the pups is Jan av Vargevass. Ellen is from one of our best litters, and we are happy to see her pups look very well and lively. We have great expectations for their future as sleddogs. We might have few puppies available.

A lot has happened at our kennel this summer. We started to build on our project we have long been dreaming about: Nymånen Huskyfarm. The work started directy after our mountaintrip in April with the burning of an old shed as Valborgfire (see rollover pic). We cut down forest and have with help of grävmaskiner, tractors and our friends, build and worked the entire summer to get pens and houses ready so the dogs could move in. Falltraining started few weeks later than normal, but thanks to a great part of free excercise in the playpen, the dogs seem to have condition as normal and in some cases even better than usual for the time of year.

Our farm is situated in the outskirts of the village. It offers wonderful trainingstrails for falltraining and there are miles and miles with scooter trails for the dogsledtours which we drive in the beautiful surrounding of Auktsjaur.
We have space for an even greater number of dogs now and therefore we have even more Siberian huskys in training for the upcoming longdistance races and dogsledding tours. It is our intention to replace most of our present Alaska Huskies with purebred Siberian Huskies over the next years. We drive dogsled tours as usual at all the facilities in Luleå and Arvidsjaur where we worked so far, but we can even start to receive guests at Nymånen Huskyfarm which in the future will include other activities under the name of Camp Auktsjaur, Swedish Lapland.

Now we have put away the sleds for the season. We have been up to the mountains and drove as long as there was good snow. After a lowpressure area with rain and wind we realized winter is over for this year. The migration birds have arrived and when we drove down from the mountains on the last snow we saw the first wagtail in Hukejaure!

We eye checked some of our dogs today: Nymånens Ellen, Nymånens Einar, Nymånens Ebbe and Nymånens Helags. All are clear of eye-defects. Until now we have checked the eyes of 10 of our dogs and alle are found clear.

Birka give birth to 6 puppies on the 15th of March. They are all grey and white with beautiful markings just like their parents.

We have been working more than ever this winter and drove both in Luleå and Arvidsjaur. One of our teams drove Polardistans in the open class and since we had so much work, most of the training before the race was done in connection to driving tourists. Our time on the 300 km. race has been our best so far and resulted in a 4th. place. The dogs rested for a few days and are back in their job now.

Jan av Vargevass (has 3 Femundslöp and 3 Polardistans to his name) has been brought to the kennel. A very good dog who will be a good asset to our racing team and probably also in breeding. He is social and friendly and has already settled in very well with us.

NBT-project had a meeting in Luleå for four days and we continue the work we started together with companies from Island, Scotland and Norway to develop Nature Based Turism. This time, we in Luleå were the hosts for the other companies and showed them what we can offer the guests who choose to book a holiday at us to experience winter. NBT has been a very nice and rewarding project We have many ideas which we will be working out in the year to come.

Temu whelped a long awaited litter of puppies. All 7 of them are dark, greyblack with white markings in the face and on the paws. They eat, sleep and grow as puppies should do when they are newborn. We are going to keep all pups, beside one who will be joining kennel Vargevass.

Training is going well. We still have to drive the ATV as there is not enough snow. The dogs seem to have adapted to the warm weather and we are training more than ever this fall. The warm spell makes it even nice to drive the ATV. Our team is entered for the Polar Distans, 300 km. open class.

The moose hunting season is opened and Izor has showed us that his training was not in vain. He has become a good tracker dog. He traced his first moose yesterday. Izor is trained to track birds which he does with ease. We will be entering him in hunting trials later this fall if time permits us. So far, he got very good remarks in both the tracking and waterapportation trials.

A litter of Alaska husky puppies was born today. Micke's leaddogs, Coolie and Grappa, have become become parents of a litter we have high expectations of for the future. We will keep all the pups.

Besides puppies, the summer also brings along lots of building work. By impuls, we bought an farm in Auktsjaur which is perfectly situated for a kennel. One can train from the yard on wonderful gravelroads, stretching for many miles. We are busy laying out a big play yard of about 4 acres and are building fences and dog houses.

Viola gave birth to 3 males and 3 females. (All are spotted)
The pups are healthy, lively and eat well; just like their dam.
Sire to the pups is Herk S24443/2001. Both parents are excellent hunting dogs in forest and mountain terrain. We hope their ofsspring will become as good as them.

We concluded our touristseason with a nice tour on the ice of Antnästräskets on the 21st of April. Few days later, we drove up to the mountains with the dogs and mushed for 4 wonderful days in most fantastic spring weather. We will be going up there few times in May. It has been long time ago since the snow conditions were so good, so late in the season. If only the nights will stay cold enough, the snow will be left on the mountains for quite some time.

Welcome to a new member of the kennel. Kölchers Ivanhoe, son of Guldmyrens Jack, is a copy of his sire. Ivanhoe is a happy and curious pup who seems to like to run fast. He loves playing with our GSP Izor who is very kind with puppies. After playing it is good sleeping.

I (Birgitta) have just returned from the Polardistance 300 in Särna.
My team consisted of:Temu of Jedeye and Guldmyrens Jack (leaders), Guldmyrens Helga, Nymånens Birka, Guldmyrens Fox and Nymånens Carla. Polardistance is the longest race in Sweden. This year the conditions were tough on the first day with loads of new snow and high temps. The next day the weather changed to cold temperatures with lows of -35
°C. The team placed 4th in the 6-dog class and all the dogs came in great shape over the finishline. They got a deserved rest of 2 days before they were back in their job, driving tourists.

Mickael has been competing in the Open Swedish Championship middle distance. His team went very well and was in silver medal position on the second day. After few problems with one of his leaders on the third day he ended at 5th place overall.

The tourist season has started; our dog teams are well trained and the job is a pleasure. We have plenty to do around this time of year and are lucky to work with what we like to do most: Driving dogs!! Thanks to all the guests who choose to book a tour with us. Microsoft's 300 best salesmen in 17 countries were Ebbenjarka's and our guests this weekend. Their tour was in beautiful lake surroundings.

Kölscher Electra, S25505/2002, (owner Brigitte Hamberg in Hällnäs) has been at us and has been bred to Guldmyrens Jack. Jack is a very good leaddog and got first prize on a show in young dog class.

We took all our young dogs/pups out for a walk on the ice today. The ice is now so thick (our neighbour drove his car on it) and well covered with snow that we can make a dog trail on it. This means we can begin our sleddog tours!

Our young German shorthair Altersundets Izor made his show début on the SVK Västerbottens show in Umeå. Judge Kurt Nilsson gave him: 1:a m. Well placed legs with good feet. Beautiful movement for his age.
Thanks to Britt-Marie Törfalk for handling Izor at the show.

I (Birgitta) just returned home from my travel to Bodö. I have been to a seminar together with some other tourist entrepeneurs from Luleå. The participants at the seminar were from the the northern parts of Sweden, Norway, Iceland, Scotland and New Foundland and are all with in a project called NBT (Nature Based Tourism).

It were three wonderful days i Norway, the seminar was interesting, the food was good and many useful tips and ideas were given and even new business contacts were made. The Norwegians showed some of their tourist attractions; among them fishing and caving.

Izor is training now for his future career as gundog. He goes with on a great many outings in the forest in order to learn to hunt birds.
He already manages to retrieve fox and he has been with on moose hunting to learn how to track moose. Viol, our adult German shorthair, is an experienced track dog and we hope that Izor will follow in her footsteps.

In the fall of 2004 we imported Moonshadow Temu of Jedeye (leaddog from Jedeye kennel in the USA) and puppy Amon (Vargevass).
We hope that these dogs will make that our dogs even better comply with the demands of quality and performance required of a typical Siberian Husky.

From the two litters we had this summer, we have kept 7 puppies;
3 males and 4 females. We think they look very promising.

We started training for the winter. We drive our teams whenever the temperature permits and when our sled dogs enjoy a day of rest, we are out in the woods with our gun dogs.

Fall is a wonderful time, but even so; one hankers after snow when sitting on the motorized quad!
